Great Question!

Mjoc follow the principles of Tread Lightly and Leave No Trace of Your Visit.

Make sure to follow Tread Lightly principles when out in the bush.

They are:

🚙Take out what you take in. Even clean up the mess of others.

🚙Stay on formed tracks.

🚙Drive with minimal impact on 4WD tracks.

🚙Extinguish campfires with cold water until cold to the touch.

🚙Leave no trace of your visit.

🚙Be considerate of other bush users.

🚙Educate yourself, do a 4WD driving course.

🚙Let someone know before you go, don't travel alone

Do I need a Modified Jeep to Join MJOC?
Do I need a Modified Jeep to Join MJOC?

You do not need to have a modified vehicle to participate in club training or trips, but there is a few items you will need to check before the training.

The club has all the recovery gear that will be used during training so no need to race out and buy anything , yet! This information applies to non-Jeeps participating also.

Before attending training you will need to check a few things as shown below;

  • Suitable or rated recovery points front and rear. (most Jeeps have a factory recovery hook on the rear passenger side)
  • If you have a tow bar reciever remove the tow ball but leave the holding pin in the receiver. This can be used for recovery at the rear.
  • Check your tyre condition and ensure you have reasonable tread depth for wet conditions.
  • We also have hand held UHF radios and if you dont have one you can discuss what you need with our trainers before going and purchasing something.
  • Check the operation of your 4WD system and Low range operation. Check your owners handbook for instructions on this procedure
  • If you car has a low fascia panel at the front such as the WK2 Grand Cherokee you will need to remove the lower section. This is removable. Instructions are in your handbook.
  • Any low side steps should alsoo be removed for four wheel drive terrain as they are easily damaged. Rock Sliders are ok.
  • Full details are in your New member Guide

What is the difference between MJOC and a Facebook Group?
What is the difference between MJOC and a Facebook Group?

What is the difference between a Social Media Group of Facebook group and a club like the Melbourne Jeep Owners Club (MJOC)?

Clubs like MJOC are affiliated with Four wheel Drive Victoria (FWDV) who are the peak body for four wheel drivers in Victoria. They have been working to ensure we have access to 4WD tracks for almost 50 Years and have built strong relationships with all levels of Government and land management bodies in Victoria.

Social media groups have no affiliations with a peak body.

Social media groups dont have insurances for members or trip leaders.

Social media groups dont offer professional 4WD training free to members.

Social media groups dont have trained Trip Leaders

Social media groups dont have formalised rated trips, its pretty much open slather and who knows what may happen out there.

MJOC trips are planned and run by experienced and trained Trip Leaders who ensure evrything runs smoothly and safely.

MJOC member participate in formalised 4WD Driver training as well as Winch training and more advanced levels of training courses.

I have an old Jeep does MJOC have a club permit scheme?
I have an old Jeep does MJOC have a club permit scheme?

The Melbourne Jeep Owners Club – Club Permit Scheme

As a benefit to members the club offers the Vicroads Club Permit Scheme (CPS) for members who own a vehicle that is more than 25 years old and is in a roadworthy condition. The Permit allows for either 45 or 90 days of use per year

The Club has Policies and Procedures in place, which deal with how the Club Permit Scheme runs within our Club and considers members obligations and compliance with Vicroads rules and regulations. To ensure members understand the above responsibility and the Vicroads Log Book system, on application members sign and undergo a written contractual agreement to follow the policies and procedures of the MJOC CPS which includes taking responsibility for any possible modifications and maintaining the vehicle in roadworthy condition.

The scheme is only available to current financial members and members must remain financial to maintain inclusion in the CPS. A lapse of membership may result in vehicle becoming unregistered after 14 days or more.
