The MJOC Muster

The MJOC Muster started off as a long weekend camping event to celebrate the clubs birthday each year. The very first Musters were usually held ove rthe Queens Birthday long weekend and involved members camping out or coming up for a day over the weekend to enjoy the club trips and activities.

In the early days these were held at places such as the Murrundindi Reserve which had dispersed camping in those days. The trips in that area included Toolangi Forest, Murrundindi and across to Narbethong. All levels of trips were run and remember the early days Jeeps were fairly stock with mild lifts and slightly larger tyres.

Other early Musters were hed at Bright, Sheepyard Flat near Mansfield, the Scout Camp at Erica which was a great spot and near Warburton.

What is a Muster?

An MJOC Muster is usually held at a location where members can camp and often has a central area or room that can be used as a HQ. Also a spot where we can gather for an evening meal is also considered such as a local hall.

Activities at a muster will usually have multiple trips each day heading off into the local 4WD tracks to play on.

Other activities usually include a Show n Shine competion where members vehicles are judged for different criteria such as the muddiest Jeep or cleanest Jeep etc. Prizes are given out for the different catergories.

Articulation Ramp is another popular event at a MJOC Muster where vehicles are driven up a purpose built flex ramp to measure the articulation before the front wheel comes off the ground. These are usually a very competitive event.

The evening meal usually on the Saturday night is usually caytered for by the club.

1998 MJOC Muster at Toolangi Forrest

We started having the MJOC Muster in the very early days of the club. We had numerous Muster events in Toolangi and Murrundindi in those days as the camping was more flexible and less restrictive so we were able to squeeze a large group in.
Trips went all over the Toolangi, Murrundindi and Narbethong forests taking in some of the iconic tracks such as "the Steps" no longer around, the infamous Rocky Track and some of the other tracks that had massive deep bog holes to challenge the best of drivers and vehicles.

1999 MJOC Muster at Murrundindi

Another muster held in the Murrundindi and Toolangi areas saw a couple of night drives as well as many trips in Toolangi's iconic mud. Downies Spur track and Rocky track got a great workout and the club had a great campout at Murrundindi Campground. One of the highlights was driving through the Cheviot Tunnel which is now only open to walking.

2006 MJOC Muster Anglesea Scout Camp

In 2006 we had the MJOC Muster at the Anglesea Scout Camp and took in the great tracks of the Otway Ranges. We even had one trip do a MVO Track that had not been driven in years, we got the key through Four Wheel Drive Victoria. The Otways did not dissapoint us with plenty of slippery slimy tracks. The Svcout Camp was a great venue and included a mess hall, and great campground.
